Staff Reporter :A case has been filed in connection with the murder of a police official’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu in Chittagong on Monday. Superintendent of Police (Dhaka Police Headquarters) Babul Aktar, husband of slain Mitu, filed the case against three anonymous people with Panchlaish Police Station. Meanwhile, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) in an overnight drive detained four persons from different places of the Port City and recovered a motorbike that was used for murdering the police official’s wife.Police have CCTV footages and spotted three bike-riding suspects with one carrying pistol.Mahmuda Khanam Mitu was stabbed and shot dead by unidentified assailants at the city’s GEC intersection on her way to put her son into a school bus around 6.45am on Sunday.Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, while briefing reporters at his office yesterday said, “It’s a part of local and international conspiracies as we’ve got information that some local politicians and some other people are involved in the killing.””It was a targeted killing,” Kamal said, adding: “Targeted killings are being carried out everywhere in the world, no one is being able to stop them.”The Home Minister said “It is the work of militants. Combined efforts have been launched to ensure the security of the families of the law enforcers.”It is being suspected that the murder was carried out to settle a score with Babul – who had a successful run in clamping down militancy in Chittagong with an iron fist, he said.Members of different law enforcing agencies continued to conduct massive combing operations in Chittagong city and its adjacent places since Sunday night in order to net the criminals, police said. Our Chittagong Bureau adds, a team of Panchlaish thana police seized the motorcycle used in murdering wife of SP Babul Aktar from beside the Sattar Mansion of Boro Garage area at 12.30 on Sunday night, Raju Ahmed, second officer of Panchlaish thana said.The motorbike was handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of CMP, he added.DB sources said, they have been able to spot the suspected killers of SP’s wife searching close circuit camera footages of the surrounding area.There were three people riding on the motorbike, involved in the murder, police believe after cross-matching camera footages of adjacent area, the sources said.Meanwhile, the government has banned on riding motorcycles by three persons across the country. This time, a motorcyclist will not be allowed to carry even his spouse and child, the Home Minister to the reporters.He said a directive has already been given to law enforcement agencies in this regard. “We hope we’ll unearth the motive behind the killings of the Police officer’s wife and the Christian grocer soon. Our law enforcement agencies were working to dig out the reasons,” he said.
