Two suspected drug dealers and two alleged pirates were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ in Cox’s Bazar, Sirajganj and Madaripur districts early Tuesday.
In Cox’s Bazar, two suspected pirates were killed in a reported gunfight between rival gangs at Fateh Ali Shikderpara Bila in Kutubdia.
The deceased were identified as Erfan Hossain alias Erfan Majhi, 32, and Nur Hossain, 26. Both were accused in several cases, including robbery and drugs.
Deedarul Ferdous, officer-in-charge of Kutubdia Police Station, said they sent a team to the spot after learning about the gunfight.
Police found Erfan and Nur with gunshot wounds and took them to Kutubdia Upazila Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.
A pistol, four bullets and 400 Yaba pills were recovered from the spot, said the OC.
In Sirajganj, Nurul Islam Mohon, 55, was killed in reported gunfight between two gangs of drug dealers at Raipur Railway Station in the Sadar upazila early morning.
Police said the drug dealers’ gangs were fighting over the share of money. “We sent a team when we learned about the gunfight,” said Mohammad Daud, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
“We recovered Mohon’s body from the spot. It bore gunshot wounds,” he said, adding that the man was accused in several drugs-related cases.
In Madaripur, a man accused in four drugs cases was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Uttar Choraikandi area of Kalkini upazila.
Jahir Uddin Jokka, 45, was a resident of Charkajhikandi village.
Rab-10, in a media statement, dubbed him a “notorious drug dealer and criminal” and said its members arrested Jahir from Uttar Choraikandi.
Later, Rab took him with them during a drive to arrest other drug dealers.
But when they reached Uttar Choraikandi, the drug dealers opened fire on them, triggering a skirmish. Jahir was killed during the ‘gunfight’, the elite force claimed.
