4 drug peddlers killed in Jashore gunfights

Four persons, including three ‘drug peddlers’, were killed in reported gunfights in Jashore and Mymensingh on Saturday.
Our Jashore correspondent reports that the deceased are Abul Kalam, 47, son of one Kader Ali Morol, Habibur Rahman, 38, son of Abdul Barik Sheikh and Milon Kansari, 40, son of one Abdus Sattar Kansari. All of them are from Nawapara village of Abhaynagar upazila.
Abhaynagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Gani Mia claimed that the deceased were terrorists and died in gunfights with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-6 in Kadamtali area of Bagdah village of the upazila around 3:15am, said the law enforcement.
“RAB handed the bodies to us in the morning and we sent those to Jashore General Hospital,” said the OC .
Meanwhile, a detained murder accused was killed in an alleged gunfight with detectives in Chowrasta area of Nandail upazila in Mymensingh district early Saturday, said Detective Branch (DB) Officer-in-Charge of the district Ashikur Rahman.
The deceased Emon is, son of one Nurul Islam from Kolapara village of the upazila, the police official said.
He claimed the deceased was accused in several murder cases. Police arrested Emon in connection with the murder of an auto-rickshaw driver Rana after snatching his vehicle on 17 May, As per his statement, Emon’s accomplices opened fire on police when a DB team conducted a drive around 2:30am for arresting other criminals, prompting them to retaliate that triggered the gunfight.
Emon sustained bullet injuries in his chest during the gunfight. He was taken to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital where physicians declared him dead, OC Ashikur said.
Earlier, three persons were killed in gunfights with RAB members in Chattogram and Chapainawabganj districts on Friday.
