Police arrested four dacoits and seized fire arms and sharp weapons from them after an encounter Friday night at Basail area in the town.
According to police and local people a group of armed dacoits numbering eight to ten entered the house of Maksudar Kabir Fardous identifying themselves as prospective tenants at 8 pm. The dacoits tied up the inmates of two stories of the four storied building at gun point.
On hearing cry local people surrounded the house and informed the police. DB police and Narsingdi Model Thana Police rushed to the spot and chased the dacoits opening gun shots. The dacoits also returned fire.
At one stage police Super, Narsingdi, Amena Begum and Mayor of the Pourashava Kamruzzaman Kamrul rushed to the spot.
Amena Begum through miking asked the dacoits to surrender. After half an hour of exchanging fire police managed to arrest four dacoits. Police also recovered two pistols, several rounds of bullets and one chapati from their possession.
