A Public Safety Tribunal of Chittagong in a verdict here on Monday sentenced four people to death for killing a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver in Gomdondi village under Boalkhali upazila of the district in 2008.
The Judge of Chittagong Divisional Public Safety Tribunal Syeda Hosne Ara pronounced the verdict convicting Nurul Alam, Abul Kalam, Kawser and Rubel.The tribunal also sentenced Arif and SM Naimuddin to life term imprisonment for killing the CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Mohammad Yusuf, court sources said.
The prosecution story, in short, is that the convicts hired Yusuf’s auto-rickshaw from city’s Bahaddarhat area for going to the shrine of Shah Mohsen Awlia in Anwara upazila of the district on May 3, 2008. When the auto-rickshaw reached Fultola area under Gomdondi village of Boalkhali they stabbed Yusuf to death and took away his auto-rickshaw. Later, victim’s cousin Hashem filed a murder case with Boalkhali Police Station in this connection.After examining 17 out of 27 prosecution witnesses the court today awarded the judgment.Among the convicts, NurulAlam, Rubel, Abul Kalam are absconding since the murder happened court sources said.
