4 cases filed over bank robbery bid at Dhamrai

Savar, Correspondent :Four cases have been filed against five people separately in connection with Thursday’s robbery attempt at a bank in Dhamrai upazila. Warrant officer of Rapid Action Battalion-4 (RAB-4) Bakhtiar filed the cases against them with Dhamrai Police Station on Friday midnight in connection with carrying illegal firearms, drugs, robbery attempt and unnatural death.The accused are Sabuj, 62, son of late Syed Ahmedof Mohadebpur in Laxmipur, Badsha Miah, 35, son of Azizul Haque in Chandpur, Riazul Isam, 33, son of late Afzal Sheikh of Munshiganj, Shila, 28, wife of Mehedi Hasan of Keraniganj, and Rumana, 25, wife of Liton Miah of Kadamtali of Keraniganj.Officer-in-Charge of Dhamrai Police Station Rezaul Haque said the two arrested women-Shila and Rumana-admitted in the primary interrogation that they were involved in the robbery attempt.They confessed they were hired by the robber group members to act as their wives that helped them in renting an apartment of a building that housed the Dhamrai branch office of Sonali Bank.The robbers also drilled a part of the apartment’s floor which is on top of the branch office on the second floor.On Thursday night, an alleged robber, Masud, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rab members when the robber gang was attempting to break into the bank by drilling the floor. Later, four more members of the robber gang were arrested from the apartment, according to Rab officials.
