Trader abduction: 4 BCL men expelled from DU

The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday temporarily expelled its four students and also served with show cause notice to explain within 10 days why they would not be expelled permanently for their involvement in an abduction case.
 The expelled students are also leaders of pro-government Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) central and university committee. The authorities took the decision at an emergency meeting with DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair.
The expelled students are : Srijon Gosh Sajeeb, a Masters student of Sociology Department and Deputy Sports Secretary of BCL central committee, Anupom Chandra, of the Institute of Food and Nutrition and Vice-President of Jagannath Hall unit of BCL, Abdullah Al-Mamun, a first year student of English Department and Student Welfare Secretary of Mohsin Hall unit of BCL, and Himel, a second year student of Management Department and activist of BCL Mohsin Hall unit of BCL.
DU Acting Proctor Amzad Ali told The New Nation that the involvement of DU students in abduction is indeed a shameful matter. The DU authorities, he said, would never tolerate such heinous crime of students. A show cause notice, he said, has been served to those involved in abduction to explain within 10 days why they would not be expelled permanently.
Meanwhile, BCL, student wing of ruling Awami League, expelled four of its leaders from the organisation for their alleged involvement in abduction of Farhad, a businessman of city’s Fakirapul.
 The police on Friday rescued Farhad Islam, 25, from Jagannath Hall, after 15 hours of his abduction, it should be recalled. Farhad was held hostage for 15 hours on last Thursday.
