In another big haul of gold, customs officials seized gold bars of around 38 kilograms at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong early Tuesday. Tipped off that a large consignment of gold was entering the country from Dubai, the customs officials had been on high alert at the airport from Monday night, said Sushanto Pal, assistant commissioner (customs) at the airport. They conducted a drive at the flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines that landed at the airport from Dubai. During their drive, the customs officials recovered 288 gold bars that were kept under the seats. They also recovered 37 gold bars from the pocket of a passenger. The price of the recovered gold bars is about Tk 16. 25 crore.
