Around 37 lakh cases are now pending with courts across the country, including the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court.
A total of 36,84,728 cases were pending with all the courts till December 31, 2019, after a total of 11,65,935 cases were disposed of between January 1 to December 31 last year (2019), said a statement issued on Thursday by Md Saifur Rahman, Spokesperson of the Supreme Court.
The lower courts had a backlog of a total of 31,72,043 cases till December 31 last year, after they had disposed of total 10,24,357 cases till the date, according to the SC statement.
Meanwhile, the number of cases pending with the Appellate Division stood at 23,617 till December 31, 2019, after the apex court disposed of a total of 6,303 cases last year.
The High Court disposed of a total of 1,35,275 cases last year, and 4,89,068 cases were pending with this court till December 31 last year.
