On the occasion a discussion meeting was held at a local hotel in the city with Sylhet Bureau Chief SA Shofiee in the chair . Opposition Whip of the Parliament Selim Uddin was present as Chief Guest while former senior vice president of Sylhet district BNP Dildar Hossain Selim , Sylhet Press Club President Iqbal Siddique , Daily Sylhet Sanglap Editor Muhammad Faizur Rahman , Regional Director of Sylhet Radion SM Zahid Hossain , Managing Director of Exilcior Hotel and Resorts Syeed Chowdhury , Sylhet Shahittya Sangsad General Secretary Azizul Haq Manik, Chief News Editor of the Daily Sylhet Surma Foysal Alam , journalists Abdul Mukit Opi, Misbah Jamal, Sylhet Metropolitan Law College Vice Principal Dr M Shahidul Islam and Publicity Secretary of Sylhet Heart Foundation Abu Taleb Murad Kawsar Howlader, Assistant Registerar of Leading University , Kamal Uddin , Sylhet Sadar Statistics Officer as special guests. The function was conducted by Azizir Rahman Khokon . The chief guest said, The New Nation has been playing a vital role in journalism and he urged the journalists to perform their responsibility with honesty and dedication. Special guesrs of the function lauded the role of The New New nation as the oldest English daily of the country. After the discussion, the chief guest along with other guests cut the cake on the occasion.
