36,373 Rohingya orphans to be brought under special protection scheme

Nearly 36,373 Rohingya orphans will be given special protection, keeping them to their nearest relatives.
According to sources, among the 36,373 children, 17,395 are boys and 18,978 are girls.
At least 6.50 lakh Rohingyas came to Bangladesh to save their lives from the atrocities of Myanmar army in the last three months. During the influx, the orphan Rohingya children took shelter in different temporary centres at Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas of the district.
Social Services Department under Social Welfare Ministry identified the children conducting a survey in the last three months.
The authority concerned suspected that the number may rise further as the influx of Rohingyas is continuing.
The Social Services Department started the survey to identify the orphan Rohingya children on September 20 last. They took steps to protect the orphan Rohingya children through installing camp office in Ukhia Upazila.
Deputy Director (DD) of the Social Services Department and Programme Coordinator Mohammad Kamruzzaman said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave shelter to the tortured Rohingyas enhancing her hands.
The officials and employees of the department worked hard to identify the orphan Rohingya children going from door to door till November 20.
At least 36,373 orphan Rohingya children have been identified through the field-level and two-month long survey till November 20 under the Orphan Rohingya Children Protection Affairs Programme.
As per the survey, most of the children are staying with their mothers and close relatives. Few children lost both of their parents. Many children also lost their parents and close relatives while travelling through the remote border area. Hundreds of children came to Bangladesh with their relatives, neighbours and people of own community. Many children found their relatives and went to them.
