Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Zahid Maleque on Friday said, 361 Bangladeshis will be brought back by a special flight on Saturday from the Coronavirus-hit Chinese city of Wuhan.
“A Biman flight with four to five physicians flew to China for bringing back our people. They will first be taken to the Ashkona Hajj camp, where they will be screened and kept under observation for 14 days,” the Health Minister said in a press briefing in the VIP lounge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines left Dhaka for Wuhan around 3pm on Friday to bring back our countrymen, who have expressed their eagerness to leave the epicentre of the deadly Coronavirus, he added.
The Minister said, “They will be released after two weeks of observation. In the event of any suspected case, they will be taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, CMH, or Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital for treatment.”
Dr. Zahid Maleque requested their relatives not to rush to the camp to meet them.
“We urge the relatives to be patient, and not to create any type of chaotic situation after arrival from China, and let us follow due procedure so that we can handover them to their families safely,” said the Minister.
“There are 19 families with 18 children among the 361 Bangladeshi men, two of whom are below the age of two,” he said.
Minister Maleque said that the flight supervised by the Health Ministry and the Bangladesh Army Medical Core will return to Dhaka by Saturday.
They will be kept quarantined for 14 days due to safety reasons under the supervision of Bangladesh Army at a makeshift hospital on the second floor of Ashkona Hajj Camp.
Although a total of 376 Bangladeshis registered their names, 15 of them withdrew later, the minister said.
Following the briefing, Zahid Maleque visited the camp where they will be kept.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Enamur Rahman were also present at the press conference.
Foreign Minister Abdul Momen said, “We asked the Chinese government to accord permissions to the Bangladeshis staying there to leave that country. And we got it.”
