Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard detained 36 people from Chittagong boat club area on Tuesday night while trying to go to Malaysia illegally by a trawler.
Five crew of the trawler and an alleged human trafficker were also arrested. The arrested human trafficker was identified as Md Kabir Hossain, 60. Tipped off, an operational team of Coast Guard patrol vessel Shedgong conducted a drive in the area and detained them at about 9:00 pm.
Sources at the Coast Guard headquarters said the 36 people were gathered in Majhirghat area near Chittagong boat club to send them to Malaysia through the sea route illegally . They were handed over to Patenga police station and Kotwali police station in Chittagong.
