3585 new books reach Ekushey Mela in 25 days

Three thousand and five hundred eighty five new books hit the stalls of this year’s Amar Ekushey Boi Mela till February 25.
Of them, 95 books on Feb 1, 35 on Feb 2, 101 on Feb 3, 102 on Feb 4, 154 on Feb 5, 290 on Feb 6, 198 on Feb 7, 130 on Feb 8, 129 on Feb 9, 125 on Feb 10, 107 on Feb 11, 311 on Feb 12, 150 on Feb 13, 147 on Feb 14, 71 on Feb 15, 130 on Feb 16, 120 on Feb 17, 91 on Feb 18, 77 on Feb 19, 264 on Feb 20, 220 on Feb 21, 240 on Feb 22, 99 on Feb 23, 83 on Feb 24 and 116 on Feb 25.
Director General of Bangla Academy Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan told The New Nation that it is positive that the writers are trying to express their thinking. He admitted that the quality of the books is decreasing day by day. He also said that some standard books come at the Boi Mela every year.
Meanwhile, one hundred and sixteen new books arrived at Amar Ekushey Boi Mela on the 25th day. Eleven new books also were unveiled on Nazrul Mancha of the Bangla Academy.
Of the new books, 21 are storybooks, 10 novels, 12 essay book, 27 poems, two on research, seven on children literature, five on biography, one on drama, one on science, five on travel, one on history, one on religion, two on translation, two on science fiction and 21 books on other subjects.

A discussion on “Bangladesher Muktijodhder Etihash” was held in the main podium of the Bangla Academy in the afternoon.
Selina Hossain presided over the function while Shantonu Hossain presented a keynote paper. Badiur Rahman, Purobi Bashu and Jakir Talukder took part in the discussion.
A fascinating cultural programme was held in the evening. Sajed Akbar, Salma Akbar, Milia Ali, Swapan Dutta, Swati Sarker, Anima Roy, Dr Anupam Kumar Pal and Dipa Chowdhury sang many songs in the programme.
The discussion titled “Goto Bochore Bangladesher Kobita” will be held in the main podium of the Bangla Academy today (Thursday).
Poet Asad Chowdhury will preside over the discussion while Professor Rafiqullah Khan will present a keynote paper.
Poet Md Nurul Huda, Dr Anik Mahmud and Rezauddin Stalin will discuss the programme.
