35 die of Covid-19 in Chattogram, Rajshahi, Barishal

A number of 12 persons died of Covid-19 and 772 more people have tested positive for the deadly virus in the last 24-hour till this morning in the district, reports BSS
A total of 772 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the district after testing 2,883 samples, climbing the number of infected patients to 92669 and the infection rate is 26.78 percent, said Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram.
The death toll from the virus reached 1,084 after 12 fatalities were reported in the district, he said.
Among the newly detected patients, 444 are from Chattogram city and 328 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.
Among the total infected persons, 68,338 are the residents of the port city and the rest 24,341 are residents of different upazilas of the district.
The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) recovery cases reached the 59,264 mark in the district with the recovery of 464 more patients on Tuesday,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 62.99.
Among the reported fatalities, 639 were the residents of the port city and the rest 455 were from different upazilas of the district, he said.
A total of 4721 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
UNB adds: Ten more people have died of Covid-19 and related complications at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Wednesday.
Three of them died of Covid, while four had symptoms of the virus and the remaining three succumbed to post-corona complications, said hospital director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani.
Of the deceased, two each were from Rajshahi, Naogaon and Natore districts, three from Pabna and one from Chapainawabganj district. Besides, 29 people have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital in the past 24 hours. On the other hand, some 37 people were discharged from the hospital after recovery during the period.
Currently, 363 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital, which has 513 beds. Of them, 20 are being treated in the ICU, said the hospital director.
RMCH has been one of the most stretched hospitals in the country during the second wave of Covid-19, particularly since the latter part of May when the deadly Delta variant was identified in multiple samples in Rajshahi division.
Meanwhile, Barishal division has logged 13 new Covid deaths in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Wednesday morning.
Of the deceased, six had tested positive for Covid-19 while the remaining seven showed symptoms of the virus infection.
Ten of them died at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) while the others died in different hospitals, the officials said.
Divisional Health Director Dr Basudev Kumar Das said that 569 patients have died of Covid-19 so far in the division.
Besides, 389 people have tested positive for Covid in Barishal division in the past 24 hours.
Of them, 152 are from Barishal district alone. So far, 16,323 people have been infected in the district.
On the other hand, some 39,742 active Covid patients have been identified in the division to date, the officials said.
According to SBMCH authorities, 210 Covid patients are currently undergoing treatment at SBMCH and of them, 64 are confirmed cases.
