The government will replace 30 million traditional cooking stoves by installing high-quality ones by the year 2030, which would require $100 million for updating five million cook stoves of the country by the year 2017.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid made the remark while speaking at a seminar titled “World Summit on Clean Cook Stoves” held in New York in the United States of America on Thursday.
The UN Foundation and Global Alliance for Clean Cook Stoves under an UN programme organised the international programme.
The government of Bangladesh provides incentives to different energy-efficient initiatives and it has undertaken various steps for ensuring maximum utilisation of energy by using high-quality cook stoves, Nasrul said.
As part of its effort, the government is committed to keep the kitchen room secured and smoke-free, he added. The world community and related organisations should come forward to provide support to the government of Bangladesh for conducting the task, State Minister urged.
The minister said Bangladesh will be a middle-income country by the year 2021 and it would turn a developed country by the year 2030.
Some ministers and high officials of Norway, Ghana, America, China and Cuba attended the international programme.
