RMG worker's killing: 30 vehicles torched in Ashulia

Staff Reporter :A human hauler ran over an operator of Palmal Garment Factory Limited at Jamgara in Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital, on Monday morning, leaving her dead on the spot. She has been identified as Fulbanu.Knowing it, the angry workers of the readymade garment (RMG) factory blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway and vandalized at least 30 vehicles and set fire to three others during the protest, said Mohsinul Kabir, Oficer-in-Charge (OC) of Ashulia Police Station. He said, “The transport plying remained suspended for an hour in view of the blockade and the vandalism. Receiving information, police rushed to the spot, fired rubber bullet and lobbed tear shells in order to disperse the protesters.”At least 10 garment factory authorities announced shutdown for the day (Monday) to avoid further vandalism in the factories and the area, the OC said. Police seized the human hauler, but the driver managed to flee the spot instantly, the police official said.Additional police forces were deployed in the area, he said.
