At least 30 garments workers were injured in a road accident in Shantirhat area on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway under Patiya Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.
Of the injured persons, 23 were rushed to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), said Amir Hossain, Nayek of CMCH police outpost. The condition of two female workers is stated to be critical, hospital sources said. Police said the accident occurred in the area at about 8 am when a Patiya- bound bus carrying RMG workers fell into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the wheel, leaving 30 passengers injured. Locals and police rescued the wounded people and sent them to CMCH. Police seized the bus but its driver and helper managed to escape.
