30 lakh children to get MR vaccines

A total of 29,98763 babies aged between 9 months and 15 years will be administered Measles and Rubella (MR) vaccines in the city and distric t of Chittagong from January 25 to February 13.In addition, children under five years of age will be given two drops of polio vaccines on the 21st National Immunization Day (NID).
The MR vaccines will be pushed through one-time syringe in the body of 18,99,306 babies in 14 upazilas of the district and 10,99,457 babies in 41 wards of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) during the three-week period.
This was disclosed in separate press conferences organized by CCC and civil surgeon (CS) office on Thursday through multi media projectors by the WHO , child and immunization officials.
Civil surgeon of Chittagong Dr Mohammad Sorfaraj Khan Chowdhury and CCC Mayor M Monzure Alam read out the separate written statements in their respective offices .
A total of 5204 temporary vaccination centers will be set up by the Chittagong civil surgeon office in its all 14 upazilas while Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) would set up 1212 temporary centers in all 41 wards in the city to carry out the programme.
The power point presentation in the CS office also disclosed that as many as 4475 health and family planning personnel and 14,811 volunteers will be engaged in 4,800 permanent vaccine centers throughout the district to make the MR campaign a success.
Dr Chowdhury said special initiatives have been taken to bring all the children of remote areas of the upazila under this programme in cooperation with some NGOs.
He also urged journalists to raise mass awareness among the people about the MR campaign through their respective media to attain the goal.
Besides, over of 850 supervisors including Councilor of 41 wards will supervise the Hum-Rubella drive in their respective jurisdictions from 8 am to 4 pm uninterruptedly that day.
