30 hurt in JP faction clash in Rangpur

At least 30 people, including a policeman, were injured as two factions of Jatiya Party locked horns with each other over welcoming party chairman HM Ershad here on Friday.
Police and witnesses said the clash ensued as the JaPa factions- one led by State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga and the other by city unit convener Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa — over welcoming Ershad when he landed from a helicopter at Rangpur Stadium around 11am.
The two rival groups chased each other again over taking position in Ershad’s Rangpur residence, Palli Nibash, leaving at least 30 people, including a sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, injured.
Jatiya Party activists vandalised four microbuses, a bus and a motorbike during the clash.
Later, police brought the situation under control.
