At least 30 people were injured, 15 of them with bullets, as they locked in clash with robbers during a robbery incident in a bus at Burni in Companiganj upazila on Thursday midnight.
Local people said when a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘MR Paribahan’ from Tukerbazar reached near Katakhal bridge at Burni, a gang of robbers opened fire to the bus in a bid to stop it around 10:30 pm, leaving 15 of its passengers injured with bullets.
Later the robbers stormed the bus and looted valuables after keeping the passengers hostage at gunpoint.
Fifteen more passengers were injured in scuffling with the bandits.
Condition of seven of the bullet-wounded was stated to be critical.
The injured were rushed to Companiganj Upazila Health Complex and Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station, confirmed the incident.
Sugyan Chakma, additional superintendent of police, Sylhet, said a team of police went to the spot to investigate the incident.
A drive in being conducted to track down the robbers, he added.
