30 fishermen abducted in 5 days from Sundarbans

At least 30 fishermen were abducted in five days from Sundarbans by pirates, but only four fishermen were rescued by the law enforcers. An hour’s “gunfight” was occurred between the members of Coastguard and pirates at Horintana area in the East Sundarbans in Swarankhola upazila of Bagerhat district on Tuesday.
Coastguard sources said, On Tuesday morning, an hour long gunfight was occurred between the members of coastguard and a forest robber gang named Barobhai Bahini while the members of coastguard went in the area with a view to rescue abducted fishermen. After the gunfight pirates managed to flee from the scene. Coastguard recovered a fishing trawler, 9 live bullets and also rescued four abducted fishermen. On the other hand, another ten fishermen were abducted by a forest robber gang named Sumon Bahini from Chaprakhali area near Dublarchar, adjacent to the Sundarbans on Tuesday morning.
 Sources said, they went for fishing in the area. All on a sudden, a forest robber gang named Sumon Bahini , armed with sharp weapons swooped on them and abducted at least ten fishermen on demand of ransom.
The rescued fishermen are Rubel of Sonatala village, Zahidul Islam of North Rajapur, Musa and Isa of the same area. Among the abducted fishermen name of two were learnt instantly and they are- Miraj Hossain and Mahbub Hossain of North Rajapur village. However, in the last five days at least 30 fishermen were abducted from Sundarbans by the forest robbers.
At least 10 fishermen were abducted from the west Sundarbans on August 7,2017 (Monday) in Swarankhola upazila area of Bagerhat district by an unidentified armed forest robber on demand of ransom.
