3 to die for killing child in Cox’s Bazar

A court here on Sunday sentenced three people, including two Rohingyas, to death each for killing a minor
boy after abduction in the district town in 2013.
The condemned convicts were Abdul Khalek, son of late Mohammad Shafir of Najirpara under Akiab district of Myanmar, Abdus Shukur, son of Golam Bari of the same district in the country, and Bahadur Miah, son of Siraj Miah of Kanchannagar village in Chandanaish upazila of Chittagong district.
According to the prosecution, Khalek, Shukur and Bahadur kidnapped the
boy, Mohammad Rridoy, 6, a nursery student of Haji Hasan Ali Government Primary School in Cox’s Bazar town and son of Nurul Haque, from near his house on July 4, 2013.
Later, they demanded Tk 3 lakh as ransom from the father of the boy over mobile phone. Failing to realise the ransom they killed the body.
On July 5, police recovered the body of Hridoy from the sea beach. Later, police arrested the trio.
After examining their confessional statement and documents, Judge of Cox’s Bazar District and Session Judges’s court M Sadiqul Islam handed down the verdict in the presence of three accused.
