Police have arrested three suspected militants of the banned terror outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh or JMB in possession of several weapons and explosives in Kurigram.
A joint police team arrested them after conducting an operation in Dhusmara Union’s Konai Chhapara area around 1:30am on Saturday, said Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan, superintendent of police in Bogura.
The detainees have been identified as Tofazzal Hossain alias Tota Miah,
30, Rafiqul Islam, 30, and Abdul Hamid, 60.
“Tota Miah is the chief of the Kurigram JMB Ichabar wing while Rafiqul and Hamid are the organising secretaries. They were arrested following the statements of four other JMB militants who had been arrested from Cumilla on Jul 29,” said Bhuiyan.
“A pistol, four bullets, two magazines, a bottle of sulfuric acid, and 1kg of gunpowder were found in their possession.”
A case will be filed with Bogura Police Station, said Bhuiyan adding that five other militants fled. Police will seek 10-day remand for grilling them after producing them in court.
