3 ‘robbers’ killed in Rangpur shootout

Three alleged robbers were killed and another injured in a ‘shootout’ between their cohorts and police in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur early Friday.
The deceased have been identified as Jahangir Hossain Anwar, 28, Ripon Miah, 35, and Ahmed Ali, 35, said Moazzem Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mithapukur Police Station.
The OC said that a gang of six robbers looted Tk 1.19 lakh from Shathibari Petrol Pump on Dhaka-Rangpur highway in the early hours on Friday.
Being informed by the petrol pump staff around 5:00am, police chased the private car carrying the bandits, the OC said.
Sensing danger, the bandits shot at the law enforcer, forcing them to fire back, triggering an hour-long gunfight, the police officer said.
At one stage, the robbers parked the car at Boldipukur, 10 kilometres from the petrol pump.
Four of the bandits were hit by bullets during the gunfight, leaving Jahangir dead on the spot.
Ripon succumbed to his injuries at Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex and Ahmed Ali died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital at 1:30pm.
Police seized a pistol, 10 sharp weapons, the private car and looted money from the possession of the robbers.
Police arrested three others bullet injured robbers name by named Roni Miah, Azad Rahman and Forhad Hossain recovered the private car they were using, a pistol, bullets, machete and looted Tk 19,000.
The OC said Forhad Hossain is now under treatment at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital under police watch.
