The elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested at least three members of an inter-district robber gang in connection with a robbery at Savar’s Amin Bazaar in broad daylight.
The matter was confirmed by RAB in a press conference at its media center in city’s Karwanbazar on Saturday at noon.
The victim Italian expat Md. Amanullah collected Tk 570,000 from the Amin Bazar branch of Islami Bank on October 28 for the construction of the house.
At that time Mostafizur , member of gang , targeted Amanullah inside the bank.
He informed the matter to Nasir and others who were on a motorcycle outside the bank.
Amanullah’s car was followed by three motorcycles and a private car when he was on the way to home at Keraniganj from Savar.
When victim Amanullah reached the Iron Bridge area of Aminbazar, robbers stopped the vehicle, shot Amanullah and fled with money.
RAB-4 Commander Mozammel Haque said three members of the gang were arrested from inside a private car at Birulia in Savar on Friday night when they were preparing for the same robbery.
Foreign pistols, revolvers and cash taka were also recovered from them.
It is learned that Robbers used normal feature phones instead of Android phones to be fool the members of law enforcement. After the robbery, their phone, SIM and even the clothes were also burnt, RAB-4 commander added.
There are many cases against all of them in different police stations. We have to be alert so that they don’t get bail. Because if they get bail, they will do the same thing again, Mozammel Haque also said.
An operation is underway to arrest the rest of the 10-12-members of the gang, RAB sources said.
