A court has granted police 15 days remand to interrogate the three persons arrested in connection with the murder of a Hindu priest in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh district.
The court of a senior judicial magistrate issued the order on Tuesday, said Public Prosecutor Aminur Rahman.
He said that police had sought 20-day remand for them in two cases, but the court granted 15 days – 10 days for the murder and five days for use of arms and explosives.
The accused were arrested in the district between Sunday night and Monday morning.
They were identified as Khalilur Rahman, Babul Hossain and Jahangir Hossain.
On Sunday, assailants slit the throat of 50-year-old Jagneshwar Roy, the head or the Santo Gaurio temple, after hacking him with sharp weapons.
Witnesses said that three men armed with sharp weapons and firearms took part in the killing. The assailants opened fire and hurled bombs while fleeing on a motorbike, they said.
Rabindranath Roy, brother of the diseased, filed a case in connection with the murder and police lodged another case under the Arms and Explosives Act against three unidentified persons.
Meanwhile, Police in Panchagarh have detained a Rajshahi University (RU) student suspecting him for the murder of the priest.
Investigating Officer Ayub Ali said that RU student Nazmus Sakib was picked up from Debiganj town on Monday. “He is being questioned,” he said.
