3 of a family killed in Nilphamari road crash

Three members of a family were killed and four other people injured in a head-on collision between a bus and an ambulance on Jaldhaka-Rangpur road in Kishoreganj upazila on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Akbar Ali, 45, his cousin Monahar Ali, 35, and nephew and ambulance driver Alam Hossain, 32. They hail from Farmgate village in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh district.
Police and locals said, the Nilphamari-bound bus of ‘Ashik Paribahan’ from Rangpur collided head-on with the ambulance in Dharer Bazar area around 11:30 am, leaving ambulance passenger Akbar
 Ali dead on the spot and six other people injured.
Monahar and Alam died on the way to hospital. The injured-Majeda, Khadiza, Akhter and Sohel-were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where their condition was stated to be critical.
Alam’s brother Jamal Uddin said the accident happened when the ambulance carrying seven people, including his sick uncle Akbar Ali, was going to Rangpur Medical College Hospital from Debiganj.
Earlier, officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj Police Station Shah Alam said they learnt as first information that six people were killed in the accident but later he confirmed the death of three people.
Outraged by the accident, locals blocked the road for two hours. Later, the traffic returned to normalcy following police intervention.
