Three members of a family received burn injuries in a fire at their kitchen room in the Government Staff Quarters in the city’s Azimpur on Saturday.
They were identified as Salamat Hossain(48), an office assistant of the Foreign Ministry, his wife Lovely Akhter(40) and their daughter Lima Akhter( 17).
Neighbours hearing the hue and cry, rushed to the house and doused the fire. The injured were taken to the Burnt and Plastic Surgery unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Victim Salamat said, the fire originated from the
kitchen of their house around 7.30 AM and spread quickly. We become injured when we were moving around the house to help each other get rid of the fire.
‘The accident happened when we were preparing food before starting for an official picnic at Gazipur’ he added.
Parthe Shankar Paul, a duty doctor of DMCH said, Salamat sustained 30 percent injuries of his body and his wife Lovely Akhter got 48 percent burning while their daughter received minor injuries.
