Three more burn victims who, received petrol bombs injuries, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on the 22nd day of the countrywide indefinite transport blockade enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.
At least 38 people died due to petrol bomb attacks in 22 days of blockade across the country.
The deceased persons were identified as the truck driver Bakul Debnath of Sylhet and Abdul Malek and Abdur Rashid of Dinajpur.
Petrol bomb victim, Bakul Debnath, a truck driver, died at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
DMCH police outpost Inspector Mozammel Haque said doctors pronounced Debnath dead around 7am on Tuesday. He was being treated at the hospital burn unit.
The police inspector said the victim had been burnt when troublemakers hurled a petrol bomb at a truck on Jan 20 in Sylhet. He was taken to the DMCH two days later. His body had suffered a 35 percent burn said the doctors.
Petrol bomb victims Abdul Malek and Abdur Rashid died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Monday night and Tuesday respectively.
Dr Maruful Islam, Head of Plastic and Surgery Department of RMCH said that some unidentified miscreants hurled petrol bomb at a truck Chirirrab Bushirbandar Bridge area of Dinajpur. The truck helper Abdur Rashid received 60 percent burn injuries in his body. He breathed his last on Tuesday morning. Abdul Malek, another burn victim died in the wee ours of Tuesday at RMCH.
Meanwhile, no procession and picketing were seen in support of the blockade in the capital but vehicular movement was less than normal.
A large number of law enforcers remained deployed in different parts of the capital to fend off any trouble.
A trucker and his helper suffered burn injuries as miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at his vehicle in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong on Tuesday morning.
The arson attack took place on Dhaka­ Chittagong highway. Truck driver Azizur Rahman, 35 and his helper Md Shamim, 23, both hailed from Keshabpur upazila of Jessore, were admitted to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).
Miscreants threw a petrol bomb at the onion-laden truck when the vehicle reached at Suklalahat of Barabkuda on the Dhaka- Chittagong highway around 7:00am on way to the port city, said Iftekhar Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda Police Station.
The condition of Azizur is critical with 18 percent burnt injuries. Shamim received three percent burnt injuries, hospital sources said.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia called the indefinite blockade from January 6 as the government did not allow her party and its allies to hold protest rallies in the capital.
