Staff Reporter :Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested three lawyers, including two advocates of Supreme Court (SC), from the city’s Dhanmondi area on Tuesday on charge of alleged financing to militant organization ‘Shahid Hamja Brigade’ (SHB).The arrested persons are identified as Supreme Court lawyers Barrister Sakila Farjana and her assistant Advocate Liton Hasan, and Dhaka Judge Court lawyer Advocate Mahfuz Chowdhury Bapon.Barrister Shakila is also Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Lawyers Forum and daughter of BNP leader Syed Wahidul Alam. RAB Media Wing Assistant Director Maksudul Alam said this in a press briefing at the force’s Headquarters on Wednesday afternoon. A concerned court on Wednesday placed them in four-day remand to investigate into the connection of funding.”A team RAB-7 conducted a drive at Dhanmondi Road-27 near Barrister Shakila’s chamber and arrested them when they were coming out of the chamber at about 12:30 am on charge of financing Tk1.08 crore to the SHB, the RAB official said.They have taken to Chittagong to interrogate in this connection, he said.RAB Chittagong Zone Director Lieutenant Colonel Miftah Uddin Ahmed said that they had evidence about them to provide financial assistance to ‘Shahid Hamja Brigade’.On April 13, RAB members also arrested three men of the organizations with arms. Later on Tuesday, the elite force conducted the drive based on the information provided by the militants and arrested the three lawyers.On February 21, a team of RAB-7 found a busted training camp of Shaheed Hamza Brigade in a remote hilly area of Bashkhali Upazila in Chittagong. RAB also detained few militants with huge arms, ammunition and training instruments.
