3 killed in Sylhet Stadium wall collapses on shanty

Three persons, including two children, were lolled as a boundary well of the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium collapsed on their shanty early Tuesday.The deceased were identified as Nasima Alder, 18, her younger brother Zahed Ahmed, id, and their cousin Ruhul Amin, m.Nashua and Zahid are the children of Asap Ali, who is a Labourer of lakkatura tea garden, while Ruhul is the son of Kubib Ali, who is also a tea garden worker at Srimongal. Anhui came here to visit his uncle’s house.The incident took place at about mso am when a wall of the eastern side of the stadium fell on the shanty of Area Ali. The stadiumis located oath° rise of a hillock at nkkatn¬ra tea gm-den while the shanty is located on the foci of the ti lock. Fire Service workers, who took part hi the rescue opera¬tion along with the local people, recovered the bodies from the rubbles. The 60 to 7o feet long wall, which was built without rod, collapsed during the downpour. They held Sylliet Divisional Sports Council r.ponsble for the accident. After the incident, the locals and the workers of the laldunora garden staged demonstration blocking the road of Sylheffinternational Airport. The demanded owlish¬ment to those involved with the defective construction of the stadium. They also demanded compensation to the victim’s family. Inter, the agitators withdrew the blockade following the request of the local administration md the local elected rep-resentati.. Meanwhile, about 12,000 workers of Lakkatura tea gar¬den observed work-abstention programme protesting the incident.
