3 JMB men placed on 5-day remand

Three suspected operatives of outlawed Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were remanded in police custody today under a court order to be interrogated over their organizational networks and weapon procurement process.
Court officials said Chittagong District Senior Magistrate Moshaddek Minhaj allowed the five detained JMB activists to be taken to police custody against a prayer from police’s detective branch seeking 20 days of remand for each of them.Police said the three JMB operatives, all students of physics in Chittagong University, were charged under the Arms Act.
The court order came nearly three weeks after security clampdown at a JMB hideout at Amanbazar area under Hathazari upazila that resulted in seizure of huge weaponry, bomb making materials and military uniforms.The JMB men are – Naimur Rahman Noyon, 25, Faisal Mahmud, 26, and Showkot Rasel, 26.
Earlier on January 3 last, a Metropolitan Magistrate Court granted a four-day remand prayer in a case filed against them while the authority of CU expelled the trio for their alleged involvement with the banned militant outfit.
Detectives on secret information conducted separate drives in the city and district on December 28 last year and arrested the three JMB men from different areas.
