The Barishal judicial magistrate court on Wednesday rejecting bail prayer sent Mahabub Sikdar, a union level Awami Juba League leader, Abdur Rashid Matabbar and Kabir, his associates, to Barishal central jail on Wednesday afternoon
Police of Hijla police station, on Tuesday arrested the three after a video clip went viral on social media that showed them forcing one of their rivals to drink a mixture of urine and human faeces at Harinathpur under Hijla upazila of Barishal district.
Mohiuddin Bepary, father of the victim Azim Bepari, said on Tuesday afternoon he lodged a case with Hijla police against six accused including the arrested three.
Mohiuddin said after the humiliation, he sent his sons to Dhaka as the accused were socially and politically influential.
Hijla police officer-in-charge Ashim Kumar Sarkar said police arrested three accused on Tuesday and produced them before the court on Wednesday noon. Police continued drives for arresting all the accused.
Barishal superintendent of police Saiful Islam, holding a press briefing at his office on Wednesday noon, said none involved with such act would be spared.
The victim Azim Bepari, 26, said Mahabub Sikdar and Abdur Rashid called him out of his home to Taltala Mosque at Harinathpur in Hijla on September 30 to talk about a business deal.
‘As I reached there, Mahbub and his associates started torturing me and at one stage forced me to drink a mixture of urine and human faeces pinning me to the ground. They also recorded video of their act and later released it on social media to humiliate me,’ he said.
The video went viral on social media on Sunday night.
