A cancer patient undergoing treatment in the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), a schoolgirl and a youth committed suicide in the city’s Shahbagh, Jatrabari and New Market areas respectively on Tuesday, police said.
Quoting the relatives and hospital authorities, DMCH Police Outpost In-Charge Mozammel Haque said that the cancer patient jumped from the eighth floor of the hospital around 9:45 am. The deceased has been identified as Nurunnabi, 40, son of Ismail Hossain, from Laxmipur district. He had been suffering from blood
cancer for several years. DMCH Director Md Mostafizur Rahman said that Nurunnabi jumped from the eighth floor’s balcony all on a sudden when his wife was taking him to the lavatory.
He was rushed to the hospital’s Emergency Department where the doctors declared him dead. Nurunnabi was admitted to the DMCH on Aug 16.
He returned to Bangladesh in the first week of August after living in Bahrain for six years, said Mostafizur Rahman.
About the death of the school girl, quoting the relatives, DMCH Police Outpost in-Charge Mozammel Haque said that she committed suicide by hanging herself with the scurf to the ceiling fan inside a room of her residence in the city’s Dakkinn Jatrabari area around 3:00pm. The deceased has been identified as Swarnali Akhter Lima, 14, daughter of Abdul Jalil, hailing from Shariatpur Sadar upazila. Lima was a student of class-VII at Natun Kuri High School, Jatrabari.
She was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where on duty doctors declared her dead, the police official said.
Regarding the suicide of the youth, New Market Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamal Hossain said that law enforcers recovered the hanging body from the window of the Second Gallery at Dhaka College. The deceased has been identified as Salimullah, 35, an employee of DMCH Nursing Institute and resident of Medical Staff Quarter on the Elephant Road in city.
The SI said that the body had been sent to DMCH morgue for autopsy.
