3 held for damaging Saraswati idols

Police arrested three people, including two women, from Dakurdanga village in Jaldhaka upazila on Tuesday evening for their alleged involvement in vandalising idols of Hindu deity Saraswati. The arrestees were identified as Rehena Begum, 45, her son Raihan, 18, and Nazneen, 25, wife of Hamidul of Dakurdanga village.
Police said a team of police conducted a drive at the village around 6:30pm and arrested the trio on charge of vandalising idols of Saraswati. Locals said one Rehena, wife of Aminur Rahman of Dakurdanga village, had an altercation with Jadish Chandra of the same village over cutting bamboo from a cluster on Tuesday morning.
Later, a group of people led by Rehena and her son Raihan attacked the Saraswati puja mandap at the village in the evening and vandalised some idols.
Officer-in-charge of Jaldhaka Police Station Moniruzzaman said the incident occurred following an altercation over cutting bamboo.
Police are investigating the matter, he added.
