S M Solaiman, Judge of Anti-Acid Tribunal Court of Bagerhat, in a judgment delivered on Sunday, convicted 3 persons and sentenced them to suffer rigorous imprisonment for 14 years and to pay a fine of Tk.50 thousand each in default to suffer another rigorous imprisonment for 3 years more on the charge of throwing acid on a housewife named Rawshan Ara Sumi. At the time of delivering the judgment the accused persons were absconding.
The learned judged scolded 3 police officers on the charge of negligence of duty in connection with the investigation into the case and directed the concerned authorities to take necessary action against them after investigating into the matter properly.
The learned judge also directed the DC, Bagerhat to confiscate both movable and immovable properties of the convicted persons and sell the same in auction and hand over the sale proceed to the acid victim as compensation within 10 days after the delivery of the judgment u/s 10 of Anti-acid Act. The convicted persons are Mssud Rana (31) Mostafa Uchantha of village Jaria-Maitkumra village within Lokpur Union under Fakirhat Upazila in the district and Hannan Shnaikh (34) of village Town Noapra within Piljanga union under the same Upazila.
