Bagerhat Correspondent :
Following the direction of a court Mongla Sea Port authority seized three ships recently.
Out of them , MV. Bora is carrying the national flag of Cyprus by the importer demanding compensation was seized at Mongla Sea Port.
The ship is now staying at Harbaria area of the Pashur Channel of the Port.
Besides , 2 more foreign ships were also seized at the port following similar cases registered with the courts.
It is learnt from the harbour department of the Mongla Port Authorities that the ship reached Chittagang Port on August 02 carrying some 28 thousand metric tones wheat imported from Ukraine by M/S. Rafiqul Islam Company of Noapara in Jessore district. After unloading about 12 thousand 6 hundred metric tones wheat there during the period of about a month the ship reached Mongla Sea Port on September 10.
The ship unloaded 15.5 thousand metric tones of wheat there killing the time of about a month. The unloading work of the wheat from the ship was completed on October 07.

The unloading work of the imported wheat at both Chittagong and Mongla ports was delayed unexpectedly due to the less capacity of its cranes and some mechanical problems. Such a quantity of wheat is normally unloaded within 15 days only. But the ship took about 2 months to unload the wheat.
As a result, M/S. Rafiqula Islam, the importer of the wheat incurred a huge loss. So, the importer filed a case in the High Court Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court on October 05 against the ship in order to realize compensation. Commander Md. Oli Ullah, Harbour Master of Mongla Port Authorities disclosed, in connection with the case for realizing compensation the court issued an order on September 06 directing the Port Authorities to seize the ship.
It may be mentioned here that for the same reasons two more foreign ships named MV. Minimas and MV. Jalbahini were seized at the port previously as per direction of the court. The ships have bee staying at the port for long.
