Three Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders of Masterda Surya Sen Hall unit of Dhaka University (DU) are constantly taking meals without making payment to the Hall canteen owner. The amount of bill is about Taka one lakh.
As a result, the canteen operators are serving sub-standard meals to the students to recover their losses. The administration watches it like mere passengers.
Sources said, Hafizur Rahman, Joint-Secretary of BCL Surya Sen Hall unit and supporter of BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag, has an unpaid amount of Tk. 29,970. There is an allegation against him that he with some of his supporters are constantly taking meals from the canteen without paying bills.
The leaders sometime assault canteen manager or canteen boys if they refuse to serve meals in their rooms.
Meanwhile, Kamal Hossein, another Joint-Secretary of Surya Sen Hall unit and supporter of BCL president, has unpaid dues of Tk. 60,240 at canteen. He does what hafiz does.
BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag told The New Nation that there is no opportunity of a BCL leader or activist to eat free
from the hall canteen. If any one does it, he will be fired from the organization and he won’t come to new committee.
Sakibul Islam Sumon, Vice-President of the hall committee has unpaid dues of Tk. 7,935. Without the three leaders, some activists have huge unpaid dues money. Of them, Kamruzzaman of room number 418 has dues of Tk 46,660, Polash of room number 101 has Tk. 44,735, Mustafiz of room number 405 has Tk. 14,220 and Faruq of room number 419 has Tk. 22,680 at the Hall canteen.
Asked about the allegation of huge unpaid dues from BCL leaders, BCL DU unit President Abid al Hasan said, we will take stern action against those who are involved with such kind of heinous activities after investigating the matter properly. If the allegation is proved, they won’t come to the new committee.
