Three people drowned in separate incidents in Chandpur district recently .
Of them, one is a man named Mostafa Chokder,40, -a mobile bread vendor at Chandpur launch ghat and others are a six-year-old child named Neyamat Hossaain- son of Nabir Hossain- a resident of Gabdergaon village under 15 No Rupasha Union in Faridganj Upazila and one five year old girl named Sadiya Akter- daughter of Abu Sayeed Khoka – of Prosonnopur village under Raosree Dakhshin union in Shahrasti Upazila.
In the first incident, close relatives said, vendor Mostafa and two other vendors jumped into the Meghna river bank from launch as soon as the Barishal- bound launch MV Jahid-4 departed Chandpur ghat early hours today Tuesday. Two others managed to swim ashore but Mostafa remained untraced till about 2 am when he was spotted and rescued unconscious by the divers team of Chandpur Uttar Fire Station and Civil Defence . He was rushed to Chandpur General Hospital where the on- duty doctor announced that he had drowned much earlier in the river water. The only son of Sidu Chokder, Mostafa was a resident of Tilabari area in Uttar Sreeramdi village-an outskirt of Chandpur Sadar Upazila and district town.
In the second incident, while having bath along with other playmates, small boy Neyamat drowned in a jheel on Monday afternoon. One of his playmates was standing beside the bank of the jheel. Then the jheel’s owner Saiful Islam, a fish culturist in the jheel, asked him, ‘why he was standing beside his jheel ?’ He replied ‘We were having bath together’. But Neyamat was missing in the water of the jheel. At once, he jumped into the jheel to search for the missing boy. At last, Neyamat was rescued unconscious. He was rushed to Faridganj Health Complex where the on duty doctor declared him dead.
In yet another incident at Prosonnopur village in Shahrasti Upazila a five- year- old girl drowned in a pond beside her home at noon on Pahela Boishakh. She wanted to put on her new dress for Pohela Baishakh but her mother told her to have bath and then put on the new dress. But she drowned. Now she is wailing and fainting again and again.
