Three devotees died of cardiac arrests at Ijtema venue in Tongi on Thursday night and early Friday. The deceased were identified as Joynal Abedin, hailed from Rankali village in Golapganj upazila of Sylhet district, Nurul Islam, of Chaklapara village under Ulipur upazila in Kurigram district and Farid Uddin, of Batia village in Singra upazila of Natore district. Farid Uddin and Nurul Islam died on Thursday night while Joynal Abedin died around 12:45 am during the first phase of Ijtema. However, the bodies were handed over to the family members of the deceased. The first phase of Biswa Ijtema, one of the biggest congregations of Muslims in the globe, began on Friday on the bank of the Turag River at Tongi, on the edge of the capital. — Gazipur, Jan 8 (UNB)
