At least three employees of Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) sustained critical burn injuries in an electric transformer explosion in the city’s Mirpur area on Thursday morning.
The victims have been identified as Rafibul Hasan, 26, an electrician of DESCO, his helpers Jony, 18, and Sazzad Hossain, 18. They are now undergoing treatment at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), police said.
Quoting the witnesses and doctors, DMCH Police Outpost In-Charge and
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mozammel Haque said that the transformer exploded and caught fire around 9.30am when they were working with an electric pillar adjoining a water-tank at Mirpur-1 under Shah Ali Police Station. The fire was doused within few minutes after it broke out.
Rakibul sustained 76 percent burn injuries while Jony 26 percent and Sazzad 22 percent, the SI said.
The police official said that the health condition of the trio is critical.
