3 dead, 20 hurt in Narail clash

At least three people were killed and 20 others were injured in a clash between two rival groups over establishing supremacy at Gandab village in Narail’s Lohagara upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Habibur Rahman alias Habil Mollah, 52, Moktar Mollah, 58, and Rafiq Mollah, 50. Habibur and Moktar died on the way to Narail Sadar Hospital while Rafiq died on the way to Jashore Sadar Hospital in critical condition. According to villagers and police sources, there was a long-running dispute between the Miraj Mollah-led group and the Sultan Mahmud Biplob-led group over dominance in the village of Gandab in Kashipur Union of the upazila. As a result of this dispute, both the groups clashed in Go-halt area of Gandab village with various local weapons.
Three members of the Miraj Mollah group were killed in the clash. The dead bodies are kept at Narail Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
The injured are undergoing treatment at Lohagara, Narail Sadar and Jashore Sadar Hospitals.
Earlier in the morning, due to the same dispute, opponents severely injured ASI (SB-Dhaka) Osman, 38 in the village.
Officer-in-charge of Lohagara Police Station Syed Ashiqur Rahman confirming the news of three people dying said that three people have been detained for questioning in connection to the incident.
The current situation of the village is under the control of police. Preparations are underway to lodge a case in this connection.
