3-day INTERPA confce begins in city tomorrow

Three-day annual conference of the International Association of Police Academies (INTERPA), an international organization of police training institutions in different countries of the world will begin on September 12 in the city.
“The three-day conference of the INTERPA will be held from September 12 to 14 at Hotel Sonargaon with the theme of ‘Digitalization of Policing,” Rector of the Police Staff College Khandkar Golam Farooq said.
Addressing a press conference at the Police Staff College at Mirpur, he said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will open the INTERPA annual conference as the chief guest virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban on 12 September morning.
Farooq, also Additional Inspector General of Police (Addl-IGP), said that a total of 127 representatives from 44 countries including host Bangladesh will participate in the conference, reports BSS.
Bangladesh and representatives of different countries will present 13 papers in the annual conference, he said, adding, “The INTERPA, an organization of 76 training institutes of 59 countries, will prepare the work plan for the next three years through the conference.”
On the second day, all participants will pay rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing floral wreaths at his mausoleum at Tungipara, Gopalganj.
They will visit Bangladesh Police Liberation War Museum at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the city.
In the closing ceremony of the conference, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed will speak as the chief guest.
Gholam Farooq said, “We will know about policing system and management of different countries through the conference, which will create opportunity to become more proficient in training and enhance capacity of police personnel.”
Replying to a question, he said in the current context, digitalization and cyber security capabilities of Bangladesh Police have increased more than before.
The Additional IGP said that the image of Bangladesh will shine through this conference. “We can share with the participating institutions about capabilities of Bangladesh police and get idea about policing system of different countries,” he said.
