3-day Baishakhi fair begins at IU

A three-day Baishakhi fair began at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Saturday on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, first day of Bengali New Year 1424.
IU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari inaugurated the fair as the chief guest.

Professor Dr M Selim Toha, Bangla department Professor Dr Abul Ahsan
Chaudhury, acting registrar SM Abdul Latif, IUTA president Professor Dr M Mahbubur Rahman, IU hall provost council president Professor Dr M Mizanur Rahman, proctor Professor M Mahbubar Rahman, students adviser Professor Dr Moha. Anowarul Haque and among others, were present as the special guests.
A discussion meeting was also held and it was conducted by chairman of Folklore Studies department Professor Dr M Saidur Rahman while the convenor of cultural programmes Professor AHM Aktarul Islam was in the chair.
Later, Colorful cultural function was held with the participation of
university teachers, students. Biswabidyaloy Theatre (Bithi), a cultural organization of the university staged a drama at 5pm.
Besides, Lathi Khela will be held on the 2nd day of the fair at the football field while Parul Opera will stag jatra-pala named ‘Mughal-E-Azam’ from 2pm to 5pm on the last day at Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman central auditorium of the university.
Earlier, IU authority brought out a Mongal Shovajatra in front of
administrative building. Teachers, students and officials of the departments, residential halls and offices attended the rally with festoons, placards, banners. It ended at the Baishakhi Monch near faculty building after parading the main roads of the campus.
