Gold bar recovery: 3 cops among 5 placed on remand

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Wednesday placed five persons, including three policemen, on a three-day remand each in the case filed in connection with recovery of gold bar.
Magistrate Atiqur Rahman of the CMM Court passed the remand order after hearing on a 10-day remand prayer as sought by the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case.
Those who have been placed on remand are Rampura Police Station SI Manzurul Alam, Police Constables Md Wahidul Islam and Md Akash Chowdhuty, Police Source Mahfuzul Alam Rony and driver Sakib Hossain.
On behalf of the defence, Advocate Moshiur Rahman
 and some other lawyers appeared in the court. The Magistrate rejected the bail petitions of the accused.
Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) of police in separate drives arrested four people, including three policemen, and recovered 149 gold bars from their possessions in the capital, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Bogra areas early on Monday night.
The detectives detained driver Mahfuz for interrogation. DB officials said that a patrol team of Rampura Police Station challenged a microbus in the Banasree area on March 13. Sensing the presence of the law enforces, two of its passengers, Samir and Munin, fled the scene. Three days later, a case was filed with the police station showing recovery of 70 gold bars and making absconding Samir and Muhin accused of it.
