Police arrested three leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League [BCL], including president of Banani Unit, on charge of extortion, raiding a house in the city’s Banani area in the small hours of Sunday.
The arrested persons were identified as Anisur Rahman Anis, Mohabbat Hosain Sabuj and Md Sohel Sheikh.
Officer-in Charge of Banani Police Station Bhuiyan Mahbub Hassan said that they arrested the trio conducting operation at house no: 91, road no: 4, Block: B, Banani R/A at around 1 am.
The BCL men were allegedly creating pressure on a garment stock-lot businessman Mizanur
Rahman for paying Tk 5 lakh as extortion.
A case against the three extortionists was filed with the concerned police station yesterday.
Farida Parvin, sub-inspector of Banani Police station, said that the arrested BCL men were later produced before the court and sent to jail at court order.
