Police arrested three cadres of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student front of ruling Awami League, from their hideout in Swarupkathi upazila of Pirojpur district on Thursday.
They were arrested in connection of killing Russell Bepari and injuring Rintu Sardar, cadres of Gournadi upazila BCL unit, 20-day ago by ambushing at Agoiljhara of Barisal in dispute over distribution of drug peddling and extortion profits.
The arrested three were Sagar Serniabad, finance secretary of Shahid Abdur Rob Serniabad College BCL unit, Amin Haoladar, BCL cadre and brother in law of AL backed upazila chairman Golam Mortuza and Rashed Rari, cadre of Agoiljhara upazila unit BCL. Monirul Islam, Agoiljhara police station officer in charge, acknowledged the facts, said the arrested would be send to court on Friday.
Police team led by Proshanta Kumar Dey, senior assistant superintendent of Gournadi circle police, operated the drive with the help of Swarupkathi police station on Thursday early morning.
In drive police arrested aforesaid three accused of that murder case from their hide out at house of Ruhul Haoladar in Atghar-Kuriana guava orchard area under Swarupkathi upazila at border of Barisal-Jhalakathi and Pirojpur district, OC of Agoiljhara PS said.
Nurrunnahar Begum, mother of killed Russell Bepari, as complainant lodged that murder case with Agoiljhara police station on August 8.
The complainant said Russell with his associate Rintu Sardar while riding motorcycle going to Sherol on August 7 afternoon were ambushed at Shihipasha of Goila union under Agoiljhara upazila led by Sagar Serniabad and associates.
The ambushed two victims were beaten and chopped mercilessness by the attackers.
Both were rushed to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital and Russell declared as dead at 8:10 PM and his associate Rintu admitted there in a critical condition.
In that murder case 8 out of 20 from Agoiljhara and Gournadi units of BCL were accused by name including the arrested three and Masud, Atik, Tamim, Sajib, Aktar, police sources said.
Mentionable the accused for that killing and their rival victim Russell gang also accused in more than half-dozen cases of drug peddling, extortion and toll collection in the area.
Russell was killed by his rivals on the day after he and his gang snatched cash Tk 18,960 and a mobile phone from a petrol pump on Gournadi-Agoiljhara Road.##
