Three Bangladeshis have been killed in a fire in the Bahraini capital Manama in the early hours of Friday, the foreign ministry has said. The fire broke out in a two-storey building around 2:38am, said the website of Bahrain’s Interior Ministry. The website, however, merely said three Asians had died and another sustained injuries without giving their nationalities. Quoting the General Director of Civil Defence, the website says, they died of smoke inhalation. A call reported the fire at 2:38 am and civil defence teams were at the spot by 2:42 am. The fire was put out before it could spread to adjoining buildings, the website said. Safety negligence was the cause of the fire that gutted the first floor. The public prosecutor had been notified, it added. Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry provided two names – Mosharraf Hossain and Abu Jalal – of the deceased, while the other remained unidentified. The foreign ministry could give no further details. More than 200,000 Bangladeshis have been to Bahrain to work since 1976. The country heavily relies on foreign workers, most of them Asians. A fire last year in Jan had killed 10 Bangladeshis. – bdnews24.com
