3 bakeries fined Tk 1.5 lakh

A mobile court here on Tuesday fined three bakeries in the capital Tk 1.50 lakh for using banned clothe dye, substandard flavour, condensed sugar and hydrogen perioxide in
making foodstuffs, including bread, biscuit and cake.
Headed by executive magistrate Rehanul Haque, the mobile court drive was jointly conducted by Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) and the district administration.
The bakeries are: VIP Bread and Biscuit Factory and Swadeshi Food Products in city’s Jurain area, and Ulka Bekary in Mirhazirbagh area.
All the bakeries were operating without obtaining or renewing the Certification of Marks (CM) from the BSTI.
Besides, the use of harmful flavour, dye and other chemicals, the bakeries were functioning in very unhygienic conditions, according to a press release.
